On July 25th, 2024, at approximately 6:20 PM, ATCOAT’s production facility in Düren, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, experienced a release of soja-oil-based resin. The process incident was promptly addressed, resulting in no injuries to personnel. However, we are currently evaluating any potential environmental impact. During routine synthesis operations, a pressure fluctuation led to a process incident that resulted in the short release of soja-oil-based resin under high pressure.
Thanks to the immediate activation of the safety systems, well-trained employees in the production area were swiftly alerted and safely evacuated. The quick response ensured that the resin around the production unit was absorbed and contained using binding agents, collected. Emergency cooling systems were activated, securing the production unit and preventing further release.
Preventative measures, including the closure of water channels, effectively prevented the resin from entering the sewage system. Internal sewers were also equipped with absorbent materials as an additional precaution. While the incident did not result in hazardous effects for workers, we are conducting a thorough review to understand any potential impact on the neighboring area. For your safety, we recommend exercising caution with any fruit or vegetables grown in this vicinity until further notice.
The district government and environmental authority has been notified, and a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the incident is currently underway. The production unit remains offline and will undergo a comprehensive inspection by TÜV before resuming operations. Additionally, all associated piping will be inspected to prevent future occurrences.
ATCOAT is committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
